Meteorite Hunters for WIRED

WIRED wrote me with a wild request: travel to the remote Peruvian highlands and make a beautiful picture of a hole in the ground. Of course I said yes. More than 10 years ago, a fireball streaked across the sky before making landfall in Carancas, a tiny town in a rugged and far-flung part of Peru. The meteorite that fell was historic: a Chondrite landfall, the only known impact of its kind in recorded history. Three men rushed to the new crater and calamity followed.
