Oil Bust Town for Bloomberg Markets

I headed to Poza Rica, a small city in Veracruz, for Bloomberg Markets. Poza Rica was supposed to embody a new future for Mexico and for Pemex, the country’s national oil company. A decade ago, when billions were being poured into developing the oil field there, investors raced to build new hotels, restaurants and more in anticipation of the money that would soon be flowing in. But instead, the oil proved more expensive to extract than experts had thought, and the boom never materialized, leaving abandoned office parks and crumbling hotels in its wake.
